Slovenska kratka proza 1919–1929

Authors

Gregor Kocijan

Gregor Kocijan is currently the most thorough interpreter of the development of Slovenian short narrative fiction. By systematically describing short fiction’s themes, lenghth, genre labels, narrative techniques, styles, and genre variety, Kocijan follows the succession, coexistence, and entanglement of different poetological and stylistic models of short stories and deals with them in the order of literary periods. All analyzes are based on the author's extensive bibliographic registers. So far, Kocijan’s monographs have discussed hundreds of short fiction works from the mid-19th century to the Moderna around 1900. In the interwar period (1919-1929), the author discusses the blossoming of this literary genre: the mass of (often syncretic) variations on realistic models and the Cankarian Moderna is faced with more innovative trends, marked by expressionism and avant-garde.
