Paremiology between tradition and innovation
Proverbs are part of our daily lives. They can be found everywhere: in fiction, in newspapers, in social media, on the radio, on television and in everyday communication. However, they have a special place in science, where they are dealt with in the interdisciplinary science of paremiology. It combines various methods - from the more classical linguistic and folkloristic to the modern, which also include the digital humanities, without which we can no longer imagine a complex treatment of paremiological units today.
This monograph brings together paremiological research from the perspectives of folklore, linguistics, ethnolinguistics, semiotics, anthropology and digitization, with a focus on the use of digital humanities, as it enables researchers to learn about and apply new, radically different methods of researching e-collections with advanced data organisation capabilities. In the monograph Paremiology between Tradition and Modernity, 14 authors in 13 chapters interweave traditional and modern treatments of proverbs in 13 chapters, presenting new perspectives on a wide range of paremiological material. The content of the monograph is divided into four thematic sections: 1. Digitization of paremiological units, 2. Folklore intergenre, 3. Ethnolinguistic analysis of paremiological units, 4. Contemporary use of paremiological units and digital resources.
